Rhubarb Crumble and Custard on the fire!

Rhubarb is the only crop ready at this time, but we are committed to preparing and tasting everything we grow as it becomes available, so we had to do something with it! What better than rhubarb crumble and custard? The group divvied the chores and, after building a good cooking fire, rhubarb was boiled down, custard was stirred and a crumble was baked in foil over the flames.

A fantastic example of group effort and the results tasted better than you can imagine!

We did do some gardening too! Teenage cabbage and purple sprouting plants were settled into their bed and netted to protect them from pigeons and butterflies (sorry flutterbys!). Nettles were attacked and beds and paths weeded.

Overall it was a great, high energy session, and very, very satisfying on the tummy! Well done everyone!
