Hello to all! We hope everyone is enjoying the Spring, the sunshine and the glory of our countryside, gardens and parks. ‘Tis a colourful and inspiring time of the year, especially in this beautiful area where we are blessed to be sandwiched between the sea and the South Downs! Enjoy all that nature offers us!
Life at the Centre for Ecotherapy has been moving on apace through the late winter and early spring!
Life at the Centre for Ecotherapy has been moving on apace through the late winter and early spring!
The Monday drop-in group has beentickling away at the wilderness site, trying to hold back the army of nettles, clearing brambles and dead wood from the resident trees and shrubs and keeping the central green space clear of teasels and thistles. The flora and fauna is fantastic and we are ever stopped in our tracks by the clarity and quality of birdsong, the bustle and busyness of mice and shrews and the stunning delicacy of blossom and leaf. |
The Friday allotment group is incredibly industrious with a greenhouse constantly overflowing with seedlings, the hardening-off area housing hoards of plantlets waiting to be planted and the allotment plot quickly filling with potatoes, broadbeans, peas, onions, beetroot, cabbage, purple sprouting, courgettes, pumpkins and squash, asparagus and globe artichokes! We even have a tub of watercress emerging, avidly awaited by several members of the group!
We aim to cook/prepare and eat any produce that is available so were delighted to cook rhubarb crumble and custard on the fire a few weeks ago! The crumble was prepared separately and toasted in foil and added to the rhubarb and custard – the result was deeee-liscious!

Both drop-ins are open, Mondays 10am-1pm and Friday 10am-2pm. New volunteer gardeners are always very welcome to attend. A friendly welcome, fire (through the winter months), hot drink and activities to suit all comers are on offer. Please bring snack/pack lunch/waterproofs as necessary.

Wild Nature bushcraft training day
In March the Centre hosted Wild Nature’s Club in the Woods bushcraft training day with James Linwood, renowned bushcraft expert. Wild Nature, founded by Robert Fallon, is a local group working to connect children and young people with Nature. Members of the team honed their fire-making, camp-cooking and knife wielding skills in the wintry beauty of the wilderness site.
For more details of Wild Nature’s activities check out their website http://www.wildnature.org.uk/

Seeking Volunteer Fundraiser
The Centre for Ecotherapy is seeking a volunteer able to help seek out, identify and apply for funding opportunities of benefit to the project. Experience would be desirable but is not essential, rather an interest in well-being and nature, a curiosity to research and identify relevant opportunities and how to best access them. Skills will include ability to use the internet, email and an enjoyment of writing.
Please email info@centreforecotherapy.org.uk for more information or to apply for position.
